About Us
New Taipei City Library is the largest public library system in Taiwan. It has 106 branches, located in 29 districts throughout New Taipei City, with approximately 9 million collections. We provide convenience access and information service to the general public.
In order to meet the diverse reading needs of our readers, New Taipei City Library strives to reinvent how a library engages with its community. We create a lifelong learning environment that is welcoming to people of all ages. Our friendly and knowledgeable staff work to change people's conceptions of what a library can be. The other branches in our system also fulfill their roles as customized and informed centers for community life. Each branch in our library system forms a link that provides access to the education, technology, and diversity that makes our community thrive. It is the mission of the New Taipei Public Library system to become a center for the pursuit of knowledge in the modern world.
History
◆In 1923, during the Japanese colonial era (1895-1945), Hai-Shan County Library was founded. This formed the basis for what would later become the Taipei County Library.
◆In 1948, Taipei County Library, temporarily located in Zhong-Shan Auditorium, Banqiao, was founded under the authorization of the County Department of Education and formally opened in July of the same year. Xiao-You Hong was appointed as the first president.
◆In 1983, Taipei County Cultural Center was founded and Taipei County Library was transferred under the supervision of the Cultural Center.
◆In 1990, a plan to reorganize Taipei County Library was initiated.
◆In 2005, Taipei County Library was officially founded.
◆In 2010, complying with Taipei County's administrative upgrade to New Taipei City, Taipei County Library was officially renamed as New Taipei City Library and all 29 districts’public libraries were reorganized and became New Taipei City Library branches.
◆On May 10, 2015, New Taipei City Library was officially opened to the general public .

Our services
◆Applying for a Library Card
1. For citizens, a national I.D. card, driver’s license, disability card/ brochure or household certificate is acceptable.
2. For foreigners, an Alien Resident Certificate, passport or a Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan Residents within expiration date is acceptable.
◆Checkout
Readers must apply for a library card to check out items. Thirty volumes can be checked out for a loan period of 30 days. The loan period may only be extended a second time. Video/audio multimedia materials, comic books and periodicals can be checked out for a loan period of 7 days.
